Bugsby – A French Las Vegan

Bugsby had a hard time finding a home because he didn’t look like any other dog.

Written by Carol Lisowski

A big dog and a big clown, Bugsby sat waiting for a new home for months. Because he was so big and didn’t look like any specific breed, people continually walked past his pen at adoptions.

Finally, it happened, Joe and Beth Gerspen were looking for a dog that was out of the puppy stage and spotted Bugsby on-line. Beth had never owned a dog before and was tentative about a big dog. They went to meet him at the Heaven Can Wait Adoption Center, and it was love at first sight for all of them. They even liked his name, a name representative of an old time Las Vegas mobster, Bugsy.

Bugsby had graduated from the Pups on Parole training program and in his new life he completed Vanguard training where he learned his commands in French. Neither Joe nor Beth spoke French before, but the trainer said they had their choice of what language they would like him taught to respond to. The trainer told them that in another language, no one else would be able to command their dog, and the dog would listen just to them. So Bugsby can now add French to his Heinz 57 heritage.

Bugsby has become a great companion and even accompanies Joe to work almost every day. He gets to go hiking, running, and goes everywhere with the family. What really makes Joe smile is the smiles that other people always have as Bugsby rides around with his head out the window sporting his doggles (goggles for dogs).

Bugsby loves wearing his doggles.

The one thing he isn’t supposed to do is get up on the bed, but he loves to sneak up on it when no one is looking. Otherwise, you can find Bugsby sound asleep on his back on the couch with his legs up in the air. Can’t you just picture that?

They say something worth having is worth waiting for. Bugsby patiently waited for just the right family to take him home. You can add the same joy and companionship to your life by adopting a dog from Heaven Can Wait.

Click here to meet the adoptable cats and dogs at Heaven Can Wait Animal Society or if you are not ready to adopt you can help sponsor a homeless pet waiting for a new home.  Adoptions are held each weekend inside PetSmart off I-215 and S. Rainbow.
