In Memory of Momma and Goo

Jazzy is a little shy, but could be your best friend...especially if you share a treat.

Written by volunteer Micki Wilson

I WAS LIVING IN AN APARTMENT ON THE WEST SIDE AND ALREADY HAD FOUR CATS AND SEVERAL BIRDS WHEN MOMMA AND GOO SHOWED UP ON MY FRONT DOORSTEP.  THEY WERE TURKISH ANGORAS; MOMMA WAS ALL WHITE AND GOO WAS ALL BLACK.  THEY WERE NOT KITTENS, BUT THEY WEREN’T VERY OLD.

I TRIED EVERYTHING TO MAKE THEM GO HOME, TO NO AVAIL.  AS FAR AS THEY WERE CONCERNED THEY WERE HOME.  EVENTUALLY I GAVE IN AND MADE THEM EACH AN APPOINTMENT TO BE FIXED.

WELL THE DAY BEFORE THE APPOINTMENTS, MOMMA DISAPPEARED AND DIDN’T MAKE HER APPOINTMENT.  GOO WAS NEUTERED, BUT BEFORE I COULD GET HER ANOTHER APPOINTMENT MOMMA GOT PREGNANT.  SHE GAVE ME EIGHT LITTLE KITTENS.  I FOUND HOMES FOR ALL, BUT THREE OF THEM.  MONSTER, BABY GIRL AND MIMOTO JOINED THE FAMILY.

THAT WAS SEVENTEEN YEARS AGO.  RECENTLY I HAD TO PUT MOMMA AND GOO DOWN DUE TO CANCER.  MIMOTO WAS TAKEN FROM US LONG AGO.  MONSTER AND BABY GIRL ARE STILL PART OF THE FAMILY.  HOWEVER, MONSTER HAS STARTED SHOWING THE SYMPTOMS OF CANCER AND HAS LOST A LOT OF WEIGHT LATELY.  I BELIEVE HE WILL BE JOINING HIS MOMMA AND UNCLE GOO WITHIN THE YEAR.

BABY GIRL STILL IS THE EPITOME OF GOOD HEALTH; THOUGH LOSING HER MOMMA HAD A MAJOR IMPACT ON HER.  SHE AND HER MOMMA WERE VERY CLOSE AND SHE WAS DEVASTATED WHEN MOMMA PASSED.

TWO STRAY CATS, SO MANY YEARS AGO.  I TRIED SO HARD NOT TO LOVE THEM.  LUCKILY, THEY WOULDN’T TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER AND I WAS BLESSED WITH MANY LOVING YEARS FROM NOT ONLY MOMMA AND GOO, BUT HER OFFSPRING TOO.

GIVING THOSE CATS A FOREVER HOME, GAVE ME SO MUCH MORE IN RETURN. I MISS THEM GREATLY, BUT I KNOW THEY HAD LONG, GOOD LIVES WITH ME AND I AM THANKFUL FOR THAT.
