Spay Day for Chihuahua’s and Pits

Gerti is a beautiful girl looking for a new home.

Heaven Can Wait Animal Society recently partnered with Univision TV, the Spanish language station for a special Spay and Neuter Clinic.   With the help of a Public Service Announcement, HCWS told viewers we would “fix” the first 200 Chihuahua’s and Pit bull dogs for pet owners – free of charge.

Chihuahua’s and Pit bulls are at risk in the Las Vegas community.  They are the two breeds most often turned over to our city’s animal shelters and the breeds most euthanized.

The response from viewers was overwhelming and our 200 slots quickly filled.  Additional spay/neuter surgeries were scheduled with pet owners for a small fee.

The program was a way for Heaven Can Wait to introduce our services to the Hispanic community.  It was also a way to let them know about pet overpopulation.

Along with the spay/neuter surgeries, dogs were given rabies and other vaccinations.

Volunteer Spanish-speaking translators answered the calls at the HCWS clinic and scheduled appointments.

The PSA was filmed Board Member Kim Yates, 5th grade class at Dooley Elementary School.  The students participated in the HCWS humane education program called “Angels for Animals.” The PSA was translated by Univision TV.

Poncho is a 4-year-old Chihuahua rescued by HCWS. For adoption information call 702-227-5555.
