Sammi – a “Win Wynn” Situation

By Diane Rogers, HCWS Volunteer

All Sammi, a tiny male Chihuahua, wanted was a place to call home and a family to love.  Instead, he was left to roam free while his owners quietly left town.  A Heaven Can Wait volunteer had noticed him wandering the neighborhood and tried to return him, only to find an empty apartment.

Meanwhile, on the other side of town, Wynn Lanier had to put her 13-year-old Poodle, Roxie down.  She was heartbroken.  It was Roxie’s groomer who told Wynn about Heaven Can Wait and directed her toward Sammi.

“Things haven’t been the same since,” Wynn smiles. “Sammi’s the best thing that ever happened to me.”  When she first took in the tiny dog in November, Sammi weighed only 4 lbs.  He’s since gained two pounds and has taken to riding on Wynn’s shoulders during car rides. Wynn noticed early on that Sammi preferred women. She dutifully takes him everywhere in a little tote bag, and Sammi loves it!

“I also have a 15-year-old cat and Sammi’s determined to establish a friendship, whether the cat likes it or not,” Wynn chuckles, noting Sammi is “the smartest, most loving dog I’ve ever known.”

Wynn credits Heaven Can Wait with changing her life and makes it a point to sing its praises every chance she gets. And Sammi? He’ll soon be going with her for some small town R & R in Southern Florida.  It’s another happy ending for Heaven Can Wait.

Wonderful dogs like Sammi are ready for adoption every Saturday at the Heaven Can Wait Animal Society Adoption Center located in PetSmart at I-215 and S. Rainbow.  Check out all of the furry friends looking for a new home by clicking: ADOPTIONS

  1. Sammi is a lucky little guy to have found Wynn to be his new Momma. I have known her a long time and she adores her animal babies.
